A woman was killed Saturday in a crash with an alleged drunken driver in Long Beach, police said.

According to authorities, the unidentified victim was a passenger in a Chevrolet that was struck by a speeding Volvo allegedly driven by 38-year-old Adalberto Delgado-Perez at about 2:40 p.m. in the 6900 block of Atlantic Avenue. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the Chevrolet was taken to the hospital in unknown condition.

Police said Delgado-Perez initially fled the scene but later returned and was taken into custody. He faces charges of suspicion of hit-and-run resulting in death, gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, and driving under the influence of alcohol causing bodily injury.
