Alli Singh, 19, of Selma, died after a vehicle plunged off a cliff and into the Pacific Ocean near Steamer Lane early Thursday morning.
The UC Santa Cruz student was inside the vehicle when it went off the cliff at approximately 12:50 a.m., according to the Santa Cruz County Sheriff's Office.
Santa Cruz Fire rescue swimmers reached the submerged vehicle and extricated Singh.
She was taken to a nearby medical facility but later died from her injuries.
A second person inside the vehicle managed to escape and suffered minor injuries.
Authorities had not immediately released additional information about the circumstances of the crash.
