Investigators with the Newport Beach Police Department are working to determine the circumstances surrounding a fatal pedestrian collision that occurred Wednesday afternoon on East Coast Highway.

Police said Angad Singh Hira, 41, of Kentfield, was struck by a vehicle in the westbound lanes of East Coast Highway west of Newport Coast Drive at around 12:45 p.m. Witnesses rendered aid and attempted life-saving measures until first responders arrived at the scene.

Despite emergency efforts, Hira was pronounced dead at the location by Newport Beach Fire Department personnel.

Authorities have not publicly identified the vehicle involved or its driver. The department's Major Accident Investigation Team continues to investigate and is requesting that anyone with relevant information come forward.
