Fremont police are investigating a fatal pedestrian crash that occurred Saturday afternoon following an attempted traffic stop.

Authorities said officers tried to stop a vehicle for reckless driving on Osgood Road near Auto Mall Parkway, but the driver fled shortly after 4 p.m. Police stated they deactivated their emergency lights and did not engage in a pursuit.

The fleeing vehicle later ran a red light at South Grimmer Boulevard, struck another car, and veered onto a sidewalk, hitting a pedestrian. The pedestrian was taken to a hospital but did not survive.

The driver, identified as Antwone Spruill, 28, was arrested. The investigation remains ongoing.
