A 9-year-old girl died after being struck by a hit-and-run driver while riding a minibike with her father in Sacramento's Oak Park neighborhood Thursday night.
Sacramento police said Avianna Hill and her father, Preston, were riding near 36th Street and 19th Avenue when a vehicle struck them just before 8 p.m. Both were rushed to a hospital, where Avianna later died from her injuries.
The driver fled the scene immediately after the crash, according to police. Investigators later identified the suspect as a 30-year-old woman, who was arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run and misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter.
Preston remains hospitalized in the intensive care unit, family members said. Relatives described Avianna as the light of everyone around her.
A GoFundMe account has been established to support the family. It can be found here.
