
A pedestrian was seriously injured Friday after being struck by a vehicle driven by 34-year-old Bijan Cyrus Irani in south Austin, authorities said.
The collision occurred around 6:53 p.m. in the 9300 block of Menchaca Road. Austin police reported that Irani’s vehicle, which sustained heavy front-end damage, struck the pedestrian before stopping in the center turn lane. The pedestrian was hospitalized with severe injuries.
Irani stayed at the scene, underwent sobriety testing, and was found to be intoxicated. A handgun was recovered from his vehicle. Irani was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated and unlawful possession of a weapon. The investigation remains ongoing.
