Authorities are investigating a fatal train incident that claimed the life of a 31-year-old pedestrian Friday evening in San Diego, California.

According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded shortly before 6:30 p.m. to the railroad right-of-way in the 2000 block of California Street near W. Hawthorn Street after reports of a person on the tracks.

Officials said Cailey R. May was struck by an oncoming train and was pronounced dead at 6:39 p.m. despite emergency life-saving efforts at the scene.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner’s Office later confirmed her identity. The cause and manner of death are still pending review.

Investigators have not released additional details, and the case remains under active investigation.
