Authorities are continuing to investigate a fatal DUI-related crash that claimed the lives of two people Monday night in Fresno County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Carlos Pimentel, 69, and Maria Pimentel, 62, were traveling northbound on State Highway 145 when a Tesla crossed into their path near Ford Avenue at approximately 7:30 p.m. The vehicles collided head-on, resulting in fatal injuries to the couple.

A Kenworth truck tractor sustained damage in the crash, CHP said. The driver of the Tesla, a 30-year-old from Riverside, was taken into custody and faces multiple charges, including vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.

The investigation remains ongoing.
