Los Angeles police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of Christine Lane Saturday night in the Westwood area.

According to the LAPD, officers responded around 10:10 p.m. to the intersection of Wilshire Boulevard and Malcolm Avenue following reports of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.

Investigators said Lane was crossing Wilshire Boulevard outside of a designated crosswalk when she was hit by a vehicle traveling southwest through the area. Authorities said the driver fled immediately after the impact and remains unidentified.

Paramedics transported Lane to a local hospital with critical injuries. She later died from injuries sustained in the collision.

Police have not released any additional information regarding the suspect vehicle and continue to search for the driver involved.

The LAPD said the fatal hit-and-run crash remains under active investigation.
