Authorities are investigating a fatal bicycle crash that claimed the life of a 48-year-old man in Bradenton earlier this month.

According to police, Craig Prather was riding his bicycle near 53rd Avenue West and 66th Street West at approximately 4:30 a.m. when a BMW reportedly entered the bike lane and collided with him.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, but Prather sustained fatal injuries in the crash.

Officials described Prather as a respected member of the local cycling community. Authorities also noted that he had survived cardiac arrest last year.

No additional information regarding the BMW driver or possible contributing factors has been released as investigators continue reviewing the collision.
