Authorities are investigating a fatal motorcycle crash that claimed the life of a La Mesa man Friday afternoon in San Diego’s El Cerrito area.
The San Diego County Department of the Medical Examiner identified the victim as 28-year-old Daniel Thomas Canniff.
Police said the collision occurred around 12:55 p.m. on El Cajon Boulevard near 56th Street. Preliminary findings indicate Canniff was traveling eastbound on a motorcycle when a westbound Toyota sedan attempted a left-hand turn and entered the motorcycle’s path.
The impact left Canniff critically injured. He was transported by emergency crews to Scripps Mercy Hospital, where he later died.
The female driver of the Toyota, identified only as a 22-year-old woman, sustained minor injuries in the incident and received medical treatment.
Authorities have not announced whether impairment or speed played a role in the collision. The San Diego Police Department is continuing its investigation.
