California Highway Patrol officers are investigating a fatal wrong-way crash on Highway 101 that claimed the life of a Salinas woman and left multiple others injured Saturday night.
CHP officials stated that a Toyota Tacoma entered the northbound lanes while traveling in the wrong direction and collided head-on with a Toyota Corolla driven by 33-year-old Dinora Maribel Gomez. The force of the impact pushed the Corolla into a Honda Accord traveling in a nearby lane.
Gomez was pronounced dead at the scene. The Tacoma driver was injured and arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. An 11-year-old passenger in the Corolla was airlifted with major injuries, while several individuals in the Honda Accord reported minor to moderate injuries.
The incident remains under active investigation by CHP.
