San Diego police are searching for a driver who fled the scene after striking a pedestrian and killing a dog in the Emerald Hills area Saturday.

Authorities said Eduardo Ramos, 22, was crossing Roswell Street with his Chihuahua when a dark-colored sedan ran a stop sign and hit them at high speed. The dog was killed, and Ramos suffered serious injuries.

The collision occurred near Ramos’s residence. Family members said he has already undergone surgery on his legs and faces ongoing medical treatment. A fundraiser has been launched to help with his medical costs.

The investigation remains ongoing.
