A two-vehicle crash on Interstate 15 killed a 66-year-old Madera woman and left multiple others injured Sunday afternoon in Newberry Springs.

The California Highway Patrol identified the woman as Elvira Nemenzo, who was riding as a rear passenger in a Honda traveling north on I-15 when a Porsche rear-ended the vehicle at approximately 12:10 p.m. near Harvard Road.

According to the CHP, the Porsche's driver failed to slow down as traffic ahead decelerated, causing the vehicle to strike the rear of the Honda.

Nemenzo was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants of the Honda, including a child, were hospitalized with major injuries. The Porsche's driver and another passenger in the Honda sustained injuries described as non-life-threatening.

The CHP continues to investigate the circumstances that led to the crash.
