Erwin Queja De La Cruz lost his life Tuesday after a stolen vehicle carrying juveniles crashed into his car in Oakley, officials reported.
Authorities with the Antioch Police Department said the gray Honda sedan had been reported stolen in Oakland two days prior. Officers pursued the vehicle as it traveled from Antioch into Oakley around 10:24 a.m., but ended the chase before the crash occurred.
Investigators said the Honda was traveling at a high rate of speed — reportedly up to 80 mph — before striking De La Cruz’s vehicle at the intersection of O’Hara Avenue and Laurel Road.
De La Cruz, an Oakley resident, was fatally injured. One juvenile was ejected from the Honda, and all occupants suffered major injuries. The incident remains under investigation.
