Officials are investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash in Augusta that resulted in the deaths of Evelyn Plakal and a driver Monday evening.
According to deputies, the crash took place on Riverwatch Parkway near Goodrich Street when a vehicle traveling westbound at a high speed failed to maintain control while negotiating a curve.
The vehicle left the roadway, struck a guardrail, and continued down an embankment before coming to rest.
Evelyn Plakal, 22, a passenger from Elgin, South Carolina, and the 23-year-old driver from Buena Vista were both pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not released further details as the investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
