
A head-on crash on Highway 43 in rural Kings County killed one person and injured two others early Monday, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The Kings County Coroner's Office identified the man killed as Gerardo Flores-Gomez, 38, of Hanford.
According to CHP's preliminary investigation, a 2021 Toyota Corolla was headed north on State Route 43 near Nevada Avenue around 5:45 a.m. when its driver crossed into the southbound lane and struck a 2007 Toyota Camry head-on. Flores-Gomez, behind the wheel of the Camry, died from his injuries. A passenger riding with him was taken to Kaweah Health Medical Center in Visalia.
The driver of the Corolla was also hospitalized, sustaining minor to moderate injuries.
CHP said alcohol and drugs are not believed to be factors in the crash, which remains under investigation.
