
Authorities are continuing to investigate a fatal two-vehicle collision that occurred early Sunday morning at the intersection of California Avenue and Chester Lane, leaving a 63-year-old Bakersfield man dead.
The Kern County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Gregory Lee Fraley.
According to Bakersfield police, Fraley was driving a silver BMW sedan southbound on Chester Lane at approximately 12:06 a.m. when a silver Mazda hatchback allegedly entered the intersection westbound against a red traffic signal, resulting in a violent collision.
Fraley was transported to a hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators said the 23-year-old Mazda driver displayed signs of intoxication and was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. The driver faces several charges, including gross vehicular manslaughter.
The crash remains under active investigation as authorities work to determine all contributing factors.
