Oceanside police are investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a 76-year-old pedestrian early Thursday morning.
According to authorities, Gregory Newton Means was crossing Mission Avenue near Mesa Drive at approximately 5 a.m. when he was struck by a vehicle. He died at the scene from his injuries.
The driver fled the area but was later located after officers found a silver Toyota Tacoma in the 200 block of Los Arbolitos. A 24-year-old Oceanside man was arrested and booked on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and felony hit-and-run.
Officials continue to investigate the circumstances leading up to the crash.
