Authorities in Grass Valley are investigating a fatal bicycle crash that claimed the life of a middle school student days after the collision.
Police said Israel “Jeremiah” Ortega was riding his bicycle in the 600 block of Whiting Street when he was struck by a vehicle on May 13. He was transported to a hospital in critical condition following the crash.
Despite medical treatment, Ortega later died from his injuries, according to school officials. The driver involved reportedly remained at the scene.
Investigators have not yet released further details regarding the cause of the crash, and the case remains under review.
