Authorities are investigating an e-bike collision in Chula Vista that ultimately claimed the life of a local man after he succumbed to his injuries nearly two weeks later.

According to the Chula Vista Police Department, Isrrael Trujillo Figueroa, 41, was riding an electric bicycle through the intersection of East Palomar Street and Raven Avenue at about 4:52 p.m. on June 23 when he was struck by a motor vehicle.

Figueroa suffered severe injuries in the collision and was taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego for emergency treatment. He remained under medical care until July 4, when he died from his injuries.

The San Diego County Medical Examiner ruled that the cause of death was multiple blunt force injuries to the head.

Investigators with the Chula Vista Police Department continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. Officials have not released additional information regarding the driver involved or the events leading up to the collision as the investigation remains ongoing.
