Authorities are investigating a fatal crash in Monterey County that claimed the life of 16-year-old Itzel Martinez-Morales on Thursday morning near Chualar, California.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the teen was riding as a passenger in a Toyota sedan traveling on River Road when the driver allegedly crossed a solid double yellow line into oncoming traffic near Parker Road at around 8:28 a.m.
The Toyota collided with an oncoming Mercedes-Benz coupe, resulting in a severe impact. Emergency responders arrived at the scene, where Martinez-Morales was pronounced dead.
She was identified as a former student of Soledad High School. CHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
