James Estis, 62, died after being struck by an unknown vehicle while crossing a South Los Angeles street late Thursday night, authorities said.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified Estis as the victim.
According to police, the crash happened around 10:40 p.m. at Vermont Avenue and West 83rd Street in the Vermont Knolls neighborhood.
Estis, who was using a wheelchair, was crossing Vermont Avenue in a marked crosswalk at 83rd Street when he was struck by a vehicle traveling north on Vermont Avenue.
The driver fled the scene after the collision. Estis was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died from his injuries.
Police are offering a reward for information leading to the identification, arrest and conviction of the driver involved.
