A 41-year-old Stockton man was killed, along with his two dogs, in a hit-and-run crash that occurred sometime between Friday night and Saturday morning, the California Highway Patrol said.
James Federer was riding a bicycle westbound on Eight Mile Road near Shumway Oak Grove Regional Park, pulling a shopping cart carrying his two dogs, when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle, according to CHP. Officials believe the crash happened four to twelve hours before officers responded to the scene at about 10:18 a.m.
Federer and both dogs died from injuries suffered in the crash.
The driver did not remain at the scene, and authorities are actively searching for the suspect vehicle, described as a silver or light gray SUV or Ford truck with major damage to the right front.
The investigation remains ongoing.
