One person was killed and multiple others were injured in a wrong way collision Saturday night in the Delano area.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash occurred around 9:17 p.m. near Highway 99 and Ninth Avenue. A 2024 Tesla Model X was traveling the wrong direction in the southbound lanes when it struck a Nissan Frontier. A Dodge Charger traveling behind the Nissan was also involved in the crash.

The Tesla driver, identified as 28 year old Jaymar Arvin Garcia Alejo of Shafter, continued driving against traffic before the collision. A passenger in the Nissan died at the scene, while the driver and another passenger were taken to a hospital with serious injuries.

Four people in the Dodge sustained minor injuries.

Authorities arrested Alejo on suspicion of felony DUI and manslaughter. The California Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident.
