California Highway Patrol officers are continuing to investigate a deadly collision Monday night in Sacramento County that claimed the lives of two young e-motorcycle riders and injured two additional people.

According to CHP investigators, the crash occurred around 9:15 p.m. near the intersection of Eagles Nest Road and Woodring Drive near the Mather Golf Course. Authorities said the victims were struck by a Nissan Titan pickup truck.

Officials stated that two men inside the pickup fled the area immediately after the collision, running into nearby fields. One suspect was later detained by law enforcement officers and identified as Jihvon Thompson.

Thompson now faces multiple felony charges, including two counts of gross vehicular manslaughter, two counts of felony DUI causing great bodily injury or death, felony hit-and-run, and an additional DUI-related offense.

Investigators said two other individuals were also hurt in the incident, though authorities have not confirmed whether they were occupants of the pickup truck or another vehicle involved after the truck reportedly lost control.

The identities of the deceased riders have not yet been publicly released as the investigation remains ongoing.
