Law enforcement officials are investigating a devastating head-on crash in Kings County that left five people dead on Highway 41 Sunday morning.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Chevrolet Silverado attempted to pass slower-moving traffic south of York Avenue when it entered the opposing lane and collided head-on with a Toyota Prius traveling northbound.

The collision resulted in a fire that engulfed the Silverado, killing the driver and three passengers, including JJ Michael Grimaldo, 21. The driver of the Toyota Prius also died in the crash.

Authorities are continuing to investigate the circumstances that led to the deadly collision.
