Stockton police are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that left one man dead and another critically injured Thursday night.
Officials said Joe Serna, 68, died from injuries sustained after being struck by a vehicle on El Dorado Street near Poplar Street. The crash occurred shortly before 7:20 p.m.
A police sergeant in the area discovered two male pedestrians in the roadway and a white SUV stopped nearby. Emergency crews rendered medical assistance before transporting both victims to a local hospital. Serna later died from his injuries, while his brother remains in critical condition.
The department’s Traffic Unit and Major Case Investigator are leading the inquiry. Representatives from the San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office also responded to assist investigators.
Police said the case remains under active investigation.
