Authorities are investigating a deadly bus crash near Corning that claimed six lives, including that of a 72-year-old Navy veteran from Chico.
According to the California Highway Patrol, John Douglas Perry was riding as a passenger on a TRAX bus when a southbound Toyota Tacoma crossed into oncoming traffic on State Route 99 west and struck the bus head-on at approximately 10 a.m.
The bus caught fire after the collision, officials said. Perry was pronounced dead following the crash. CHP is leading the investigation with support from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office.
