A 65-year-old Richmond resident died Saturday after being struck by a vehicle while riding his bicycle in Southside Berkeley, according to local authorities.

Officials identified the cyclist as John Edward Muller. The collision happened around 3 p.m. as Muller was heading south on Telegraph Avenue near Haste Street. A northbound vehicle hit him, and he later succumbed to his injuries at a nearby hospital.

The crash occurred close to Cleary Hall, a UC Berkeley dormitory. Police confirmed the driver remained at the scene and cooperated with officers.

This marks Berkeley’s first fatal bicycle crash of the year, bringing the city’s 2025 traffic death count to three. The investigation is active.
