California Highway Patrol officers are investigating a fatal pedestrian accident that claimed the life of Johnny Lee Clay early Friday in Sacramento.
According to CHP, Clay, 77, was walking in the area of eastbound Florin Road west of Florin Perkins Road when he was struck by a vehicle at approximately 2:35 a.m.
Authorities said the motorist involved reported being unable to see Clay before the collision. Emergency crews responded to the scene and found Clay with fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead at the location.
Investigators are reviewing evidence and examining the circumstances surrounding the crash. Officials have not announced whether any citations or charges are expected.
The fatal collision remains under active investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
