California Highway Patrol officials are investigating a fatal head-on crash in Crest that killed a 72-year-old woman and left another driver seriously injured.
The crash happened just before 3 p.m. on La Cresta Road near Coyote Ridge. According to CHP, a Chevrolet Silverado traveling east crossed into oncoming traffic and collided with a westbound Volkswagen Jetta.
Josefina Sanchez of Ramona was pronounced dead at the scene. The Silverado driver was hospitalized with major injuries. Investigators believe alcohol impairment may have played a role in the crash.
The case remains under investigation by CHP.
