Joyce Qi Yile, 21, died after a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning along South DuSable Lake Shore Drive, Chicago police confirmed.
Police reported that a vehicle carrying five people was traveling near Soldier Field around 2:20 a.m. when the driver lost control in the 2500 block of South DuSable Lake Shore Drive. The vehicle struck a pole before crashing into the median.
Yile, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed her identity.
The driver and three other occupants were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. An investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
