Authorities in San Diego arrested a woman in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of 27-year-old Katie Osorio on Friday afternoon.
Police said Osorio, a resident of National City, was standing near a bus stop along National Avenue near 35th Street when an Infiniti sedan veered onto the sidewalk and struck her.
Emergency responders transported Osorio to a local hospital for treatment. Despite lifesaving efforts, she later died from injuries sustained in the collision.
Investigators said the driver fled the scene immediately after the crash. Authorities later identified and arrested 41-year-old Assmaa Elayyat on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run.
Friends and family members have since launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover memorial and funeral expenses for Osorio, who was described by loved ones as a bride-to-be with a bright future ahead.
The investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
