California Highway Patrol is investigating a late-night pedestrian collision that left a 16-year-old girl with severe injuries in Newbury Park.
According to investigators, Kaya Terry was walking along Potrero Road at approximately 11 p.m. when an eastbound pickup truck driven by a 17-year-old moved onto the right shoulder while approaching another vehicle and struck her.
Emergency responders found Terry unconscious at the scene. She was initially transported to Los Robles Regional Medical Center before being transferred to Children's Hospital Los Angeles for continued medical care.
Authorities said Terry attends Newbury Park High School and plays on the school's volleyball team. The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation.
