Oakland police are investigating a fatal pedestrian collision that claimed the life of Keith Barnes on Tuesday evening in east Oakland.
According to authorities, Barnes, 37, was crossing Coliseum Way from the east side of High Street shortly before 6:30 p.m. when he was struck by a dump truck making a left turn from High Street.
Emergency personnel responded quickly to the scene and discovered Barnes trapped beneath the vehicle and unresponsive. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Officials stated that the dump truck driver remained at the location following the crash and cooperated with investigators. Preliminary findings indicate that neither speed nor alcohol appears to have been a contributing factor in the incident.
The Oakland Police Department has not released additional information as the investigation remains ongoing.
