Authorities have released additional details regarding a fatal bicycle collision on State Route 1 that claimed the life of an Oregon woman and resulted in criminal charges against a Ventura County driver.

According to the California Highway Patrol, 33-year-old Kellie Standish of Bend was riding northbound near Solimar Beach Road when a Nissan Frontier pickup truck allegedly drifted into the designated bike lane and struck cyclists from behind at approximately 7:08 p.m.

Standish died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.

Officials said a 39-year-old Ventura man riding a bicycle was also killed in the collision, while a third cyclist suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the pickup truck, Gabriel Esquivel, 24, was arrested and later charged with second-degree murder, DUI causing injury, and driving with a suspended or revoked license.

Investigators allege the vehicle traveled onto the shoulder and into the bike lane before striking the cyclists. The crash remains under investigation by the California Highway Patrol.

Standish was remembered by those who knew her through Oregon Adaptive Sports as a caring and dedicated person whose impact extended far beyond her professional work.
