Authorities in Fresno are investigating a deadly early morning crash on Highway 41 that left two people dead, including a young child.

According to the California Highway Patrol, a Toyota Camry stopped in the roadway without lights was struck by a Kia Optima around 2:25 a.m. north of Highway 180. Officials said several motorists had previously reported near misses involving the disabled vehicle before the collision occurred.

The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified one of the victims as 3-year-old Kendrixx Leavell of Hanford, who was traveling in the Kia. The child died as a result of injuries sustained in the crash.

Officials confirmed that the driver of the Toyota Camry, a 33-year-old Fresno woman, also died at the scene. An adult passenger in the Kia was hospitalized with major injuries.

The crash remains under active investigation by CHP.
