
Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a Bakersfield woman on Saturday night.
According to officials, Lalita Marie Young, 49, was struck after a vehicle traveling east veered off Belle Terrace and hit her around 9:50 p.m. The driver fled the scene but was later located by officers.
Young was pronounced dead at the scene due to major injuries sustained in the crash.
Investigators said speed and impairment appear to have played a role in the incident. The suspect now faces charges including vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run causing death.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
