A fatal pedestrian crash on an Interstate 55 entrance ramp claimed the lives of two individuals early Friday, St. Louis police said.
Investigators stated that Lejla Hadzikadunic had stopped her Kia in the northbound lanes after experiencing a flat tire. Demarion Hendricks pulled over at the ramp to assist her. While the two were outside the vehicle, a Dodge Ram entered the ramp and struck them.
The impact caused the Dodge to hit a guardrail before stopping. Police said Hadzikadunic died at the scene, and Hendricks later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. The Dodge driver was transported for treatment of minor injuries. The incident remains under investigation.
