Lionila Yerena, 78, was killed Saturday afternoon after a vehicle collision in Long Beach, authorities said.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office identified Yerena as the victim.

Investigators said a 2019 Volvo driven by a Compton man was traveling north on Atlantic Avenue at a high rate of speed around 2:40 p.m. when it struck a 2004 Chevrolet.

The Chevrolet overturned following the impact. The Volvo then crashed into two other stationary vehicles that were waiting at the intersection.

Yerena was a passenger in the Chevrolet and died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. The Chevrolet driver was transported to a hospital for treatment.

Authorities arrested the Volvo driver. He faces several charges, including hit-and-run resulting in death and gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated.
