A fatal accident on westbound Route 60 claimed the life of a 68-year-old Los Angeles man Monday when a loose tire from another car struck his vehicle.
The incident occurred near the Jack Rabbit Trail exit at approximately 11 a.m. The tire detached from a BMW driven by Philip McKeehan, crossed the center divider, and landed on the minivan’s windshield and roof. The impact caused the driver to lose control, resulting in a crash into the center divider and a dirt embankment.
The minivan passenger, 54, of Santa Ana, was treated for minor injuries. CHP investigators said McKeehan, 54, of Riverside, was not hurt. The investigation remains active.
