Authorities are continuing to investigate a fatal chain-reaction crash on Highway 99 in Lodi that resulted in the deaths of two people and the arrest of a commercial truck driver.

Officials said the collision occurred shortly after 12:20 p.m. when a tractor-trailer driven by Manvir Singh left the roadway and struck a guardrail near Harney Lane. The impact reportedly set off a multi-vehicle crash involving three additional vehicles.

Two people were killed in the collision, according to law enforcement. Singh allegedly fled the scene on foot but was later located and arrested by San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office deputies.

He was booked on charges of vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and hit-and-run resulting in death. Bail was set at $185,000.

The California Highway Patrol continues to lead the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.
