A 30-year-old motorcyclist died after being struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene Wednesday night in central Fresno, police said.

The Fresno County Coroner's Office identified the victim as Marvin Johnson of Fresno.

Police say the crash happened around 9 p.m. near the intersection of Dakota and Fruit Avenues, when a vehicle heading eastbound on Dakota turned northbound and collided with Johnson's westbound motorcycle. The driver, described as operating a large-frame Ford, sped away from the scene heading north on Fruit Avenue.

Johnson was rushed to Community Regional Medical Center, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Authorities are continuing to search for the driver responsible. Anyone with information has been urged to contact Fresno police as the investigation continues.
