An 8-year-old student in the Northwest Independent School District died following a three-vehicle collision Thursday in Rhome, authorities said.
The crash happened around 3:45 p.m. at Texas 114 and Alliance Boulevard when a sedan turning into a residential neighborhood was struck by a pickup truck. The impact pushed the sedan into a third vehicle, investigators reported.
Matteo Hernandez, a passenger in the sedan, was transported by air to Cook Children's Medical Center after paramedics briefly revived him at the scene. He was pronounced dead before arrival. The driver of the sedan, his grandmother, suffered serious injuries, while other involved motorists sustained minor or no injuries. Officials said the investigation is ongoing.
