A man was struck and killed while crossing a Bakersfield street Wednesday night, the Kern County Coroner's Office confirmed.
The victim was identified as Matthew David Harper, 36, of Bakersfield. The crash occurred around 9:20 p.m. in the 2000 block of Wible Road, near Valley Plaza Mall.
Officials said Harper was crossing Wible Road south of Ming Avenue when a southbound vehicle struck him. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver remained on scene following the crash, and authorities said impairment was not suspected.
The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
