Dallas police arrested Michael Lavarius McRae after a suspected DUI crash early New Year’s Day that seriously injured an 8-year-old child on Central Expressway.
Investigators said McRae’s Honda Civic struck a family’s vehicle just after 1 a.m. while traveling northbound. Police reported McRae was allegedly driving at a high rate of speed and weaving between lanes when the collision occurred, causing the family’s car to flip.
The force of the crash ejected the child from the vehicle. He suffered life-threatening injuries and required emergency medical intervention, including a below-the-knee amputation. Witnesses assisted the injured child before first responders arrived at the scene.
McRae now faces multiple charges, including intoxication assault with serious bodily injury, along with assault, resisting arrest, and failure to maintain financial responsibility, police said.
