A deadly crash involving a semi-truck shut down major freeway lanes in Boyle Heights early Sunday, officials said.
According to the California Highway Patrol, a semi-truck lost control on the southbound 5 Freeway near Fourth Street at approximately 5:10 a.m., striking multiple vehicles and causing a multi-car chain reaction. One of the vehicles caught fire during the crash.
Authorities confirmed that Miriam Marroquin, 60, died from injuries sustained in the collision. Ten others were injured and taken to local hospitals. The crash temporarily closed the southbound 5 Freeway to the westbound 10 Freeway as investigators worked the scene.
