A wrong-way crash on the 405 Freeway in Hawthorne claimed the life of a local mother early Tuesday morning, authorities said.
Myeisha Darlene Pierson, 38, was driving north on the freeway when a southbound vehicle crossed into oncoming lanes and struck her car head-on, according to law enforcement. The collision happened during the early morning hours, when traffic on the corridor is typically light.
Investigators believe the driver of the wrong-way vehicle was impaired at the time of the crash. The driver's identity and whether any charges have been filed had not been disclosed as of Tuesday.
California Highway Patrol officials have not released further details about the cause of the crash, and the investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact local authorities.
