Authorities in Novato are continuing to investigate a fatal single-vehicle crash that killed Nico Vargas early Saturday morning and injured four other teenagers.
Preliminary findings indicate that the vehicle left the roadway before striking a utility pole on San Marin Drive. Vargas, identified as a former student of the Cotati-Rohnert Park Unified School District, died as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.
Law enforcement officials said the driver, a 17-year-old juvenile, was arrested on suspicion of DUI. Investigators are working to determine contributing factors, including speed and impairment, as part of the ongoing probe.
